Brand to Watch: Aerowatch and the Aerowatch Renaissance Orange Tornado

Aerowatch is a small brand with a big history. At Baselworld 2015, the Jura-based brand debuted the Renaissance Orange Tornado, a new skeletonized watch with bright accents on the dial. It’s worth taking a look at both where this latest Breitling replica watches company comes from and what it’s doing today. Here’s the Aerowatch story behind the Renaissance Orange Tornado.

Aerowatch isn’t the most familiar name in the watch world, but it has the kind of solid Swiss heritage that many small independent brands would do anything for. Originally founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1910, Aerowatch aspired to being a watchmaker for the future. As the name suggests, the brand had its eye on an English-speaking international market, and during the golden age of flight it wanted to be the first name in aviation-themed timepieces.

But the path forward was not so easy. The brand moved repeatedly, first to Fleurier, then to Neuchâtel. Throughout, it remained a family-run business. When Maxime Crevoisier took over the company from its original owners in 1942, he set it on its course as a specialist in pocketwatches and pendant Breitling replica watches uk for men and women.

He and his son Georges built up a distribution network in more than 30 countries. The business continued along through the following decades. In 2001 the Crevoisiers sold Aerowatch to Denis Bolzli, who now runs the company with his two sons. It is based in Saignelégier in the Swiss Jura, close to the French border.

A key thing to know about the brand is that Aerowatch only entered the wristwatch market very recently. Throughout the 20th century it remained a pocketwatch company. It was not until 2004 that the brand began to work on original wrist cheap Breitling replica watches with fine Swiss movements. Today it has a range of models for men and women, with quartz and mechanical calibers.

An important moment for the brand was 2009, when it launched its first Grandes Squelettes models. Skeletonized models are always a pleasure to gaze into, but all the more so when the movements they reveal have some history to them. That’s definitely the case with Aerowatch’s Grandes Squelettes: they’re powered by hand-wound Unitas movements, which have a heritage dating back to the 1950s.

The Renaissance Orange Tornado uses a skeletonized bridge design. It’s built off of concentric circles that emanate outwards from the balance, located at 8 o’clock. (This subtle asymmetry was also used in the Black Tornado, which was introduced several years ago; other Grandes Squelettes models have different designs.) Two bright orange hands with luminous coating are mounted at the center; a seconds subdial is at 6 o’clock. Simple, luminous hour markings are found around the perimeter of the dial, making for easy reading. The small seconds display has no markers, but the orange hand should make its position easy to spot nonetheless.

One real treat in looking at the Renaissance Orange Tornado is that its barrel is open for view. As you wind the movement via the crown, you can see the mainspring contract. And as it winds down over the course of 46 hours, you’ll be able to monitor the remaining power just by glancing at it.

The Breitling replica watches uk uses a Unitas 6498 movement, a 16 1/2-ligne manual caliber. Now owned by ETA (and sometimes known as the ETA 6498), it runs in 17 jewels and has a pocketwatch-style power reserve of 18,000 vph. The movement has been skeletonized, decorated, and chamfered by hand.

The Renaissance Orange Tornado is sizable: it has a 45-mm diameter. Its case is made of polished stainless steel with a black PVD coating. The ring around the dial is matte black with orange markings for the hour indexes. The front sapphire crystal is domed. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters.

Available at Aerowatch retailers since March, the Renaissance Orange Tornado costs $2,580. It comes on a black leather strap with orange overstitching and has a steel folding clasp that’s coated in black PVD.

Hublot Classic Fusion “ForbiddenX”

With the recent restoration of diplomatic ties between the U.S. and Cuba, American cigar smokers may soon be able to puff on Cuban cigars legally. Now they can count down to that historic moment on a Breitling replica watches uk that actually has real tobacco leaves in its dial: the Hublot Classic Fusion ForbiddenX.

The Hublot Classic Fusion ForbiddenX represents the second phase of the collaboration between Hublot and prestigious cigar brand Arturo Fuente, the first being the release of the King Power Arturo Fuente in 2012. The new replica watches uk — named for the coveted, special-occasion cigar made at the Fuente family’s famed Chateau de la Fuente estate in the Dominican Republic — takes the premium cigar motif a step further, with a brown-shaded dial infused with the same tobacco leaves that are rolled into the ForbiddenX cigar. The leaves, which make a trans-Atlantic journey from Fuente’s tobacco fields in Santiago to Hublot’s manufacture in Nyon, Switzerland, are inserted into the dials in a high-tech process that uses epoxy resin to make them stable and rigid.

The brown ceramic bezel of the Hublot Classic Fusion “ForbiddenX” (with the typical Hublot H-shaped inset screws) works in harmony with the tobacco-leaf dial to evokes the brown richness of fine cigar tobacco. The brown color is also echoed in the calfskin strap, which features white contrast stitching and the stylized “X” symbol of the ForbiddenX cigar. The latest Breitling replica watch’s Classic Fusion case measures 45 mm in diameter and is available in titanium, black ceramic, or Hublot’s proprietary King Gold (pictured.)

The movement is the automatic chronograph Caliber HUB 1143, which has 59 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve. It powers a 30-minute chronograph (with a red central counter and a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock on the dial) as well as a date function, in a window at 6 o’clock. The caseback is adorned with the iconic image of Carlos Fuente, Sr. and Carlos Fuente, Jr. over the ForbiddenX logo. The Hublot Classic Fusion “ForbiddenX” is delivered in a specially designed wooden display case that can double as a cigar humidor, and each version is limited edition: 250 pieces each for the ceramic and titanium models, 150 pieces for the King Gold. There is also a tourbillon version of the Classic Fusion “ForbiddenX” that is limited to only 30 pieces worldwide.

Fratello Friday: My Top 5 Moon-Phase Watches

Regular readers of my “Fratello Friday” posts know that I’m a sucker for Omega’s Speedmaster Professional, a.k.a the “Moonwatch.” Today’s post, however, concerns a different type of “moon Breitling replica watches,” namely the type with a moon-phase indicator.

Yes, the moon-phase is a complication that I find totally useless, from a practical standpoint. However, from an aesthetic standpoint, it is also one of the nicest complications a wristwatch can have, in my humble opinion. I might even prefer it to an openworked dial with a view of a tourbillon cage, though I realize I might be alone in this.

A moon-phase complication simply brings a watch’s dial to life. The (usually) blue or black disks, with an elegant gold moon on them, are just awesome to glance at every now and then, especially when the sunlight catches them as you’re driving your car or sitting in your living room.

There are a lot of latest Breitling replica watches with moon-phase indicators out there, ranging from fairly cheap to only affordable by a privileged few. As complications go, it is accessible to a wider range of watch enthusiasts than some others. For this list, price, materials, and availability were not factors. I just picked what I liked best.

1. Arnold & Son – HM Perpetual Moon

One of the brands that surprised me the most this year was Arnold & Son, with its beautiful collection of classical-looking watches that would suit a gentleman in his seventies as well as a young executive in his thirties. The moon disk on the HM Perpetual Moon is relatively large and enables Arnold & Son to put a very large Moon on it. The moon on the moon disk is hand-engraved and made from either silver or gold, depending on the version you choose. More about this watch can be found here on Fratellowatches.

2. Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calendar

Although this watch’s name doesn’t immediately reveal the presence of a moon-phase complication, but its inclusion makes sense, since we built our calendar around the moon. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calendar has a beautiful moon-phase indicator at 6 o’clock, one element of this timepiece’s calendar complication. The watch includes day, date and month indicators in addition to the moon-phase. It is a very flat watch, with an elegant diameter of just 39 mm. More information about the JLC Master Calendar can be found here on Fratellowatches.

3. Patek Philippe Nautilus 5726/1A

How Patek Philippe arrives at its reference numbers remains a big mystery, but one thing is certain: the Nautilus Ref. 5726/1A is an incredibly sporty moon-phase Patek Philippe replica watches! Like the Jaeger-LeCoulte Master Calendar, it has day, date, and month indicators as well. Patek’s in-house Caliber 324 serves as a base movement for these extra features.  This model was introduced in 2012 as an addition to Patek’s already impressive lineup of Nautilus watches. More about these new Patek Philippe 5726/1A models can be found here on Fratellowatches.

4. Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonphase

Is this the best of both worlds — the Moonwatch with a moon-phase indication? Purist fans of the Speedmaster Professional might get a bit nauseous when seeing all these variations on the original Moonwatch, but I certainly like it. The fourth subdial at 12 o’clock on the Speedmaster Professional Moonphase shows the date and moon-phase. In the past, there have been several variations on this watch (white gold, broad-arrow hands, et cetera) but this model comes closest to the original Speedmaster design, in my opinion. Click here for more on Speedmaster watches with a moon-phase.

5. Jaeger-LeCoultre Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire

Another Jaeger-LeCoultre? Yes. The JLC Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire is one of the nicest introductions in recent years by Jaeger-LeCoultre, in my opinion. I would need much more space to explain precisely how the watch’s “Dual-Wing” concept works, but the main thing to know is that one barrel is dedicated to precision timing while the second barrel is dedicated to the other functions on the dial. This Duomètre is a very complicated Breitling replica watches uk, able to display the moon-phase for both hemispheres.

Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days – 47 mm “Paneristi Forever”

Many Breitling replica watches uk brands have their communities of diehard fans, but few can match the intense devotion of the Paneristi, the group of Panerai watch enthusiasts that have met regularly for 13 years on the independent, online forum www.paneristi.com to share their passion for the brand. Panerai has rewarded its most loyal supporters with a limited-edition watch in their honor.

The watch, called the Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days – 47mm “Paneristi Forever” and tagged with reference PAM00532 (Paneristi are big on referring to the watches by PAM numbers), sports a Radiomir 1940 case made of DLC-coated steel. The case is the same type as the transitional one between the original Radiomir and Luminor cases, and its large 47-mm diameter is identical to that of the very first Panerai prototype from 1936. The matte black DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) case is a first for a Panerai Radiomir 1940 watch.

The minimalist black dial uses Panerai’s hallmark “sandwich” construction and features a small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock. Above the 6 o’clock position is a visual nod to Panerai’s history as a supplier of instruments for Italian naval commandos: a relief image of a Siluro a Lenta Corsa, the “human torpedo” on which the commandos carried out underwater missions while wearing Panerai products on their wrists.

The Panerai replica watches devoted to the Paneristi contains Panerai’s Caliber P.3000, a hand-wound movement designed and built in the Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel, Switzerland. The movement boasts a three-day power reserve, owing to two spring barrels connected in series and an unusually large balance wheel (13.2 mm in diameter), which oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vph. It also has a device that enables the hour to be adjusted without interfering with the running of the minute and seconds hands.

The case of the Radiomir 1940 3 Days – 47mm “Paneristi Forever” is water-resistant to 100 meters, and has a screwed, solid steel caseback engraved with “Paneristi Forever” The watch is delivered on a strap made of natural, untreated leather, with a trapezoidal steel buckle that is also treated with matte black coating.

Competition to acquire one of these watches (price: $12,600) is likely to be fierce: according to Panerai, the Paneristi online community has grown to encompass many thousands of Panerai aficionados from all around the world, and this special-edition Breitling fake watches is limited to only 500 pieces.
